The Range Rover has always been seen as pretty much the pinnacle of British SUV craftsmanship (no offence, Bentley Bentayga…), but the question is, does the latest generation live up to the quality of the last iteration? Well, it’s time to find out! Mat’s joined forces with Yianni to put the new Range through its paces. In terms of cost, it starts from around £99,000, jumping all the way up to £180,000 - so what do you get for your money? Well starting with the design, it’s so much smoother and sleeker than before. From the front through to the back, this is one SUV that’s done away with the creases and curves, but one which thankfully remains unmistakably a Range Rover! Around the back, you’ll find hidden lights which are integrated into the car, along with flush door handles on either side and an all-new grille design up front. The quality continues on the inside, too. Sure, it’s maybe not as luxurious as a Bentayga, but it’s still built to a high quality! The chairs are super comfy, and there is a whole load of storage to be found throughout the cabin. You get a big infotainment screen up front coupled with some physical climate control buttons, and of course, it comes with a digital dial display. In terms of engines, there are a number of petrol and diesel options to choose from, with the range-topper being a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can deliver 530hp! So what do you think? It doesn’t come cheap, but has the new Range Rover reclaimed its SUV crown? You’ll have to stick with Mat and Yianni to see for yourself! Meet the new Range Rover Sport! It’s the sportier edition of the world-renowned Range Rover, and Mat’s about to find out if you SUV lovers should go for the sport edition over the standard model. On first impressions, it’s unmistakably a Range Rover, with a whole load of similarities to the standard edition. However, there are a couple of differences that show off that it’s the Sport edition. Around the back, there’s a big roof spoiler (the largest on any Range Rover, no less!), and both the front and rear are a bit more curvaceous than the standard Range Rover. On the inside, the similarities continue, with the same dashboard and infotainment screen design. The centre console is slightly different, but overall it’s unmistakably a Range Rover of some description. The infotainment system is good (if a bit laggy) and you’re treated to a large digital dial display. Some areas of the cabin feel a bit cheaper than the standard Range Rover, but you certainly wouldn’t be disappointed if you were driving this on a daily basis! There are a number of petrol, diesel and hybrid engines to choose from, but the range-topper is a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can deliver 530hp! However, the plug-in hybrid isn’t a bad option, with a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six & electric motor delivering 510hp, along with the option to travel up to 70 miles on electric power alone! The Range Rover Sport starts from £80,000, but is it really worth choosing over competitors such as the Porsche Cayenne or BMW X5? Or more importantly, should you just pay a bit more and go for the standard Range Rover? You’ll have to join Mat and find out for yourself! The Ranger Rover plug-in hybrid is here with a sleek new design and some great EV range, offering more than its competitors. This PHEV has a 3L turbocharged 6-cylinder engine with an electric motor and an 8-speed automatic transmission. It gets a combined 434 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, standard AWD. The Range Rover plug-in hybrid has a 38.2 kWh battery with 82 km/51 miles of EV range. With a full tank of gas and a full charge, you get about 806 km/500 miles. With a starting price of $137,850 CAD/$110,500 USD, it does not qualify for the Federal EV rebate of $5,000 in Canada. In the US, it qualifies for a tax credit up to $7500. The Range Rover PHEV is one of the few plug-in hybrids to offer 50 kW DC rapid charging capability and can charge up to 80% in under an hour. The battery can charge to 100% in 5 hours on a 7.2 kW level 2 charger. This plug-in hybrid earns a combined city/highway rating of 4.6Le/100km, 51 MPGe. With the battery depleted it gets 11.3L/100km, 21 MPG combined. The exterior of the Range Rover is clean and modern with a simple elegance, it is a little bit longer than the previous model with more cabin space including extra front and second row legroom and cargo capacity. We are driving the Range Rover First Edition model, made in limited numbers in the first year of production. It starts at 188,450 CAD/$164,000 USD. The Range Rover’s ride is plush, smooth and so comfortable. When you put it in dynamic mode, everything firms up but with the electronic air suspension it’s really, still set up for comfort, you feel like you are gliding down the road. The air suspension also lowers the vehicle for easy access to the cargo area. This new Range Rover has a twin-turbo 4.4 litre V8 with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. This new V8 produces 37 lb-ft more torque than the previous 5L Supercharged V8. There are eight terrain drive modes to choose from and new to Land Rover is all wheel steering which is standard on the Range Rover improving manoeuvrability. This SUV can wade in depths of 35.4” and the 3D surround camera features wade sensing, it uses sensors in the door mirrors to let you know when water levels are approaching maximum depth. The exterior of the Range Rover is clean and modern with a simple elegance including flushed door handles, a unique front bumper and five bar grille design, we are riding on 23” wheels. The interior design is elegant with an integrated 13.1” touchscreen with Amazon Alexa, 13.7” digital driver display, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, 11.4” rear seat entertainment, a Meridian signature sound system, wireless charger, 24-way heated and cooled hot stone massage electric front seats, a centre console refrigerator compartment, panoramic sunroof and a powered gesture tailgate. Gebouwd op een compleet nieuw platform moet de Range Rover weer onze harten veroveren, beginnend bij deze rijtest. Eén ding kan je ze in ieder geval nageven: copycats zijn het niet. De Range Rover, officiële naam Land Rover Range Rover, gaat al een halve eeuw mee. Pas eind jaren negentig werden de Duitsers wakker en startten ook met het bouwen van luxe SUV’s. De Range Rover combineert van oudsher sereen comfort met allesoverwinnende capaciteiten. Giet dat in een modern jasje en het moet goed komen. Toch? We gaan het uitvinden in de rijtest van de New Range Rover. Om eerst maar zuur te beginnen: je moet écht een kenner zijn om de voorkant van het vorige model te kunnen onderscheiden. Er is niet veel mis mee, maar spannend is het daarmee ook niet. De kont is dat duidelijk wel. Die is nogal fors (waar ook liefhebbers voor zijn) en heeft een tweedelige achterklep. Opvallend detail is dat de achterlichten onzichtbaar zijn tenzij ze worden geactiveerd. De New Range Rover wordt gekenmerkt door drie designlijnen die hun oorsprong vinden in alle voorgaande generaties: de aflopende daklijn, de krachtige taillelijn en de oplopende lijn van de dorpel. Ondanks het formaat heeft de New Range Rover een relatief gunstige luchtweerstandscoëfficiënt (cW waarde) van 0,30. Net als bij het uitgaande model is er de keuze uit uit Standard en Long Wheelbase carrosserieën, met naar keuze vier, vijf of zeven zitplaatsen. In de jaren negentig kocht BMW een hele trits Engelse merken waaronder Rover, MINI, Land Rover en Jaguar. Met de komst van het nieuwe millennium sneuvelde dat huwelijk, maar Land Rover producten gebruikte nog wat jaren BMW-techniek waaronder de 4,4 liter grote V8. Als je je druk maakt over brandstofverbruik en/of aanschafprijs, dan is de New Range Rover niets voor jou. Alle verwennerij komt met een prijskaartje en dat begint bij € 142.852. De New Range Rover P530 uit de rijtest kost € 241.391,00. En je kunt nog verder losgaan met de optielijst…. Ergens is de New Range Rover een briljante auto, maar wel één die gevoelsmatig nog gepolijst moet worden. Kleine irritaties waren we snel vergeten, maar het onderstel is niet zo goed als het zou moeten zijn. Een maatje kleinere velgen zal helpen, maar Q7, X5 en GLE laten zien dat het beter kan qua comfort. Meet the heavily revised BMW X7! It may only be a mid-life facelift, but the X7 has undergone a couple of big changes to help differentiate it from its predecessor! But what exactly has changed? Well for starters, there are a number of updates to the exterior. Around the back, there’s a new tail light design and a new bumper, and because we’ve got our hands on the X7 M60i edition, it also comes with quad tailpipes! There are a number of updates at the front, too, with a new headlight design and bumper. And like with any new BMW, it also comes equipped with a massive grille! On the inside, the X7 is covered in high-quality materials. This updated edition also comes with a new infotainment display and system, the same as found in the latest iX. There’s also an updated centre console design, and the M60i has a couple of M design features, including an M steering wheel and M colours on the seatbelts. When it comes to engines, the entry-level car comes with either a 3-litre straight-six turbo petrol or diesel, which can deliver 352hp or 381hp respectively. However, it’s possible to go much bigger, with the range-topper being a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that puts down 530hp! The entry-level X7 starts from around £85,000, but if you want to choose the V8-powered M60i, you’ll need to pay at least £115,000! But is it worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself! A subtle makeover, for sure, but there's a lot more to the all-new Range Rover than meets the eye. The silhouette may look familiar, but there are bunch of changes to the design to set it apart from its predecessor. The headlights are slimmer, the tail lights are now hidden behind a blacked-out panel and the side profile is a little sleeker than before. The interior has also undergone a serious overhaul to up the level of luxury, which is mixed in nicely with vastly upgraded cabin tech.
